Couple Counselling Sesssions
When couples are considering counselling they are usually functioning at an all time low. This can mean one or both partners may be apathetic, lonely, or angry. This may accompany strong emotions about themselves, their spouse, and the survivability of their relationship, their children, other family members, and their general outlook on life. Although there are obvious differences in how individuals function within relationships, there are patterns of functioning and communication within couples. At the point of attending counselling, often, communication is at a stale-mate or is broken down.
I will see couples on a session to session basis to help strengthen relationships, to increase communication, to help couples develop further understanding of themselves and their partner, to manage special concerns like intimacy, infidelity, imbalances in power, and alike. Each couple brings forth their own history, their own unique relationships and their own unique pattern of communicating. I will help couples understand these patterns and help them have a GREAT RELATIONSHIP. The number of counselling sessions we have depends on the goals we set together but I find it helpful for couples to commit to at least three sessions so that I can get a good picture of what needs work in your specific relationship. Much of our work together will involve homework sessions outside of the office and I will nudge you to complete this work each week.

The relationship investment requires a commitment by both partners to participate in indepth and (sometimes) complex sessions with the goal of identifying areas of needed improvement; and, to select and use interventions and tools to maintain a long, healthy and giving relationship. Much of this work will be done outside of the counselling office and requires a commitment to participating in a range of homework exercises.
